In Chinese culture, the Sanxing (三星), or "Three Stars," represent the celestial bodies Jupiter, Ursa Major, and Canopus, embodying good fortune. These stars are often personified as Fu, Lu, and Shou (福祿壽), representing Fortune, Prosperity, and Longevity respectively. Their iconic image—three wise, bearded old men—emerged during the Ming Dynasty. Fu, Lu, and Shou are associated with Jupiter, Mizar (in Ursa Major), and Canopus, respectively. They are venerated in folk religion, their statues gracing temples, homes, and businesses, often accompanied by offerings during Chinese New Year. The traditional arrangement, from right to left (Fu, Lu, Shou), reflects traditional Chinese writing. The Sanxing symbolize the three essential elements of a fulfilling life: wealth, prosperity, and longevity, representing the aspirations of Chinese culture for generations. Their enduring presence reflects the deep-seated cultural significance of these celestial deities.
